The stability of the natural remanent magnetization (NRM) was examined through progressive demagnetization experiments by alternating field (AF) method. A total of 26 reliable archeomagnetic ages ranging between 600 A.D. and 1890 A.D. were obtained from the sites, which are virtual1y consistent with their archeological ages. On the assumption that NRMo f historic baked earths should' be very stable,magnetic c1eaning procedure was neglected in previous archeomagnetic studies in Japan. However,our analysis of AF demagnetization reveals that NRMs of some baked earths bear a considerable amount of unstable components,a nd suggests that magnetic c1eaning should be carried out even on the archeomagnetic samples.}, pages = {1--14}, title = {考古地磁気年代推定試料の交流消磁実験}, volume = {40}, year = {1990} }
