である。「看破」学習とは,教科の中核にある「重大観念」を「本質的な問い」による探究によって暴き出 す(看破する)ことを目指した方法である。 ウイギンズが「看破」学習を公言するようになったのは,1980年代後半のことである。当時,彼は,重 要なことをすべて教えようとする「網羅」型カリキュラムと,論理的技能の指導に偏った思考技能教授に より,「無思慮な習得」が招かれることを憂慮していた。この問題を克服するために,彼は「問い」を追求 し続けることの重要性を主張していた。例えば,当時彼が研究部長を務めていたエッセンシャル・スクー ル連盟では,「本質的な問い」を軸にカリキュラムを編成することが試みられていた。その「本質的な問い」 は「学問の構造に迫る問い」と「性向に注目する問い」の2つに分類することができる。 ウイギンズは,適切な性向を伴った探究を要求していた。それは現在,「理解の六側面」に基づいて設定 されるパフォーマンス群によって評価されることになっており,そのようなパフォーマンスが発揮される 状況を評価課題に設定することは「真正の評価」論として提起されていた。ウイギンズの教育方法論は, 学問の樹造に迫る中で新たな性向を養成することをねらったもので,そのことは評価にまで貫かれている。
