The interviews were recorded with permission, and a verbatim transcript was subsequently prepared, with personal information protected. The transcripts were qualitatively analyzed through coding and categorization, resulting in five categories of how children perceive violence and seven categories of children's intentions to commit violence. These results suggest that violence has unique meanings for children in the midst of a cycle of violence, and that their intentions for committing violence are diverse.
