Five female university students served as subjects who were all beginners. The subjects walked for 6 min at approximately 60 m/mi n with the three different length skis,i.e.,Mini ski :60 cm,Short ski :160 cm and Long ski :180 cm,respectivery. Oxygen uptake was measured by using Douglas bag method during exercise and recovery period. The results of this study may be summarized as follows 1). The average relative metabolic rate (R.M.R.) were 10.8 ±: 0.4 for Mini ski, 9.1±0.5 for Short ski and 8.8±0.7 for Long ski, respectively. 2). The average oxygen requirement for 1 step were 15.2± 1.6 ml for Mini ski,13.5 ±1.4 ml for Short ski and 13.1± 1.9 ml for Long ski, respectively.
